Henry's Newborn Essentials

After Emmet was born I made a post about his newborn essentials, and while we used some similar things in the first few weeks with Henry, I was surprised at some of the differences there were between our two boys! The most notable was that Henry did not liked to be swaddled and our pediatrician in fact discouraged it. Two years, friends. Just two years between them and already the advice on how to care for a wee babe changed. Instead of swaddling Henry, he slept (and still sleeps) in sleep sacks. We cuddle with blankets throughout the day and use them for warmth while I can keep an eye on him. Here is a list of Henry's newborn essentials (and how they differ from Emmet's!)

Feeding-
-Burp Rags - I only use my own. I liked them better than the ones we used for Emmet and ended up donating all of them...even the classic cloth-diaper-inserts-as-burp-rags.
-Lil' buds Breast Comfort Packs - Technically for me, but oh how they soothed my sore boobies.
-Breast Pads by Love My - the ones I mentioned in Emmet's newborn essentials were a flippin joke compared to these. These will hold in an ungodly amount of milk without soaking through to my shirt.

Sleeping-
-Moses Basket/Stand - A hand-me-down from Emmet! It works great. We use it primarily just for sleeping at night though, and for Emmet we used it everywhere, all of the time. Emmet knocked it over though with Henry in it and we decided we needed something else!
-Sleep Sacks - As I mentioned, Henry doesn't like to be swaddled. So to add extra warmth during the night we have used these by Halo and these by ErgoBaby and like them both. We're even trying out some new ones here soon for when he grows out of his newborn size.

Wear-
-Simple Onesies - I remember dressing Emmet in all sorts of little outfits. With Henry we just like soft onesies that are easy to take on and off and have easy access for diaper changes. The rest is just fun if it's what you are into. Our favorites are from Gap, Old Navy, and Carters... though if I could go back in time (since we are using hand-me-downs from Emmet) I would have picked out ones from smaller companies like Tiny Threads, Childhood Clothing, Candy Kirby Designs, etc. Alas, we didn't need to buy new ones though.
-Diapers - I've been trying to eliminate waste around our house, but I'm just not a good enough person to do cloth diapers, sorry. We have a months worth of seventh generation diapers delivered to our door once a month and it is the biggest blessing. They are the best diapers we have tried at the best price for our budget! Plus they are at least semi eco friendly, which I feel better about.

Other-
-4Moms Rockaroo Swing - Great for soothing when nothing else works, or when you need to entertain a toddler AND they are safe off the floor and away from the curious toddler.
-DockaTot - Henry lays in this all of the time. It's nice to have a place to set them down where you feel like they are safe and happy!
-Swaddle/Baby Blankets - For snuggling with, and extra warmth through the day. I like to use mine from my shop plus super soft- light weight muslin blankets.
-Pacifiers - I was adamant about sticking to the "wait until __weeks to add in a pacifier" with Emmet. With Henry we started using one as soon as we got home from the hospital. We like Natursutten and these from Wild Creek Co. (Doddle & Co sadly didn't work for Henry in the end, though I love the design idea!)

Things I swore by with Emmet that we never use:
-Boppy Pillow- I was SO dependent on that thing when nursing Emmet. I never use it or any other pillows when nursing Henry. I just built up the arm strength to hold him.
-Bathtime stuff- Henry gets a bath sometimes, but it isn't quite the production as I made when I would bathe Emmet! We've done a few sink baths, but often we just both hop in with Emmet and wash them both at once. Burt's Bees Baby Shampoo and lotion is still my favorite for both boys.
