Before we started our adventure at Pioneer Bluffs we stopped and ate a picnic lunch in front of their art gallery house in the shade of some big beautiful trees. Emmet slept the whole time in our Baby Bjorn carrier- we've decided he is a pretty content little baby! He seems to just always go with the flow no matter where we are, what the temperature is, or what we are doing, we got pretty lucky with this one! While we ate talked about some of the beautiful flint hills artists that either we have met, seen their artwork, and some of us even own a few their pieces. There are some pretty talented artists in our area and one day I hope to be able to have a few pieces of my own!
Pioneer Bluffs is home to a beautiful farm house with an art gallery inside and a gorgeous white barn with an event space. We started our tour at the gallery where there is a permanent collection of flint hills artists on the first floor and a few visiting artists in the bedrooms upstairs. Among the ceramic pieces, oil paintings, and photographs, Dave and I both loved the black and white lithograph prints the best, done by the gallery attendant himself, Matthew C. Regier. They were beautiful depictions of the grassy hills and cloudy skies that we both love!
Behind the house is a big white barn with "Pioneer Bluffs" painted in big bold letters on the side. Two other red barns sit beside and behind it with large Barn Quilts mounted to the sides. Inside the white barn is a beautiful event space that I wish I had thought of for Dave and I's wedding! Upstairs was a beautiful set up for a ceremony and the downstairs was filled with tables and chairs, it would have been absolutely perfect. We may have missed out on our wedding, but maybe we can attend a few of the events that are held there!
After leaving Matfield Green we stopped in Cottonwood Falls for a quick visit before heading home. It was a hot, yet beautiful day in Matfield Green with Dave's family full of art and laughter. I'm so glad that I got to go back there again and hope to go back again here soon!
