Hello my name is Leah and I'm a storage shuffler. I shuffle storage. I force myself (or am forced by others) to keep all of my beloved items in a certain defined space and frequently go through, throw out, and reorganize things to dwell within these spaces. Do I slow down my intake to live within these means? Of course not. I just reshuffle them from time to time.
It is something I do at home all of the time. Dave can never find any of his things because I am constantly reorganizing things so that all of our stuff can fit into our small home (I looked it up you guys. We *almost* live in a tiny house officially, only 400 square feet off). I feel bad sometimes that he can't find things, but usually I just brag about my organizational abilities. "No really, I fit all of these things in this one box. I'm amazing. I know."
While at home this past weekend I let myself thumb through my old box of memories. Upon their last child moving out my parents declared the house officially theirs and had us box up all of our things so that they could remodel. I'm happy for them really. That house needed work and it looks amazing now. But every time I go home now I have to crawl into a dusty, spider web infested attic to retrieve my box of goodies so that I can reorganize it. Whoa is me. (It really isn't that bad) This particular time though I felt myself getting a ping of nostalgia and decided to bring home a few items to organize into my own space. This included, of course, all of my childhood photos among other things.
Immediately upon getting home I set to work to find a place for my pictures and I knew exactly what to do with them! Awhile back I found a few Birchbox boxes at our local thrift store for about a quarter a piece. The beautiful little boxes glimmered with their organizational possibilities and have been treasured, unfilled items of mine ever since. I have toyed with the idea of subscribing to Birchbox for a few months now (albeit partially, if not mostly for their beautiful boxes- I wish I was kidding), but I find myself hesitant because I generally find myself being that person who has to set special reminders to "skip a month" every single month because they don't have the heart to actually cancel the subscription. Someday maybe, someday. Their beautiful little boxes though make the perfect photo boxes (and you can be a weirdo like me and get a whole set of them on ebay!!!)
I cut some rectangles out of these beautiful designer postcards that my mother in law bought from me for Christmas from Anthropologie a few years ago to create labels. I first glued them over the logo on each box and then glued a smaller white rectangle over the top to write on. After that I ordered a few more prints using Shutterfly, organized them into specific time periods and tucked them into each box! So easy, and such a cute way to store all of my memories.
-Old Photos (either from your memory box or ordered through Shutterfly)
-Birchbox Boxes (use your leftover box form your monthly subscription, get them from ebay, or use other boxes- I also used a decorative box from hobby lobby as well as a cute box that a gift from my grandmother came in)
-Decorative Paper (The ones I used are sold out on Anthropologie but you can find them here, or similar ones here and here)
-Mod Podge or Rubber Cement
How do you store your old photos?
