At the end of August Dave and I found out that we were expecting our first baby! I took a test after school one day and texted Dave to come home right away. Usually, Dave takes his time getting home when I beckon him, but he knew that I might test and he was home in seconds. It was such a sweet moment to share just the two of us, standing there in our living room so excited but in complete disbelief! We were so excited we couldn't hold it in. We were able to tell Dave's family in person because we were already spending time with them all that weekend and we called my family to tell them on the phone. It was such a fun weekend of sharing our news and dreaming of the months to come.
After a grueling 6 weeks of holding our secret in, we finally had our first appointment and were able to start telling people! Dave and I sat nervously in the doctor's office as they herded us around to our various stopping points in the office and we met our doctor for the first time. It was so fun to get to see our little baby bounce around on the ultrasound and hear his little heartbeat for the first time. Announcing was just as fun! It was so nice to be able to finally share with all of our family and friends our exciting news.
At the beginning of December, after many routine appointments, we finally had our 20 week ultrasound scan to make sure our little baby was growing correctly and of course, to find out if it was a boy or a girl. Dave and I were so excited to find out! We would have been so happy either way, but finding out that our baby was a sweet little boy was so much fun! I went home and ordered some plastic dinosaurs right away and we called our families to share the fun news.
At the end of December we lost our puppy, Professor, which was really heartbreaking and hard-and still is. I had always dreamed of Professor and our little guy snuggling and taking naps together and sadly won't get to experience this. While it breaks my heart to have lost him and that the baby won't ever get to meet him I'm so glad I had Professor there the day I felt our little man's first kick. It was such a special moment.
In January my sweet friend Sara and I went out and took some maternity pictures. We took advantage of some really oddly nice weather for January and went around all over Newton taking pictures. It was so much fun to take a day to just enjoy and document this pregnancy. I'll always love having these pictures to show our little guy someday.
In February and March we were lucky enough to have two baby showers thrown by friends and family; one at school with all of my wonderful fellow teachers, and one thrown by my amazing mother and sister in laws. We are so blessed to have such generous and loving people in our lives. We were showered with gifts and love for out little guy and are starting to actually feel ready because of it! In March we also finished up our little guy's room. I just love how it turned out!
This last month is going to be a whirlwind of getting things finished up and ready and preparing to meet our little guy! I can't believe that we only have 30 days until this little man is due to be in our arms. I'm hoping for 30 days of rest, relaxation, and finishing touches. I can't wait to hold him in my arms. May 6 here we come!
