Before I was an art teacher I was a barista at our local coffee shop for about four years. It was the longest job I have ever had and I loved just about every single second of it. The people there, both customers and coworkers, became my own family.. a family that I will love dearly forever.
Working there also turned me into a full fledged coffee lover. I had always liked coffee, but I had never truly loved it until now. I only live about a block away from the coffee shop I worked at now, but still I need to make coffee at home every once in awhile. One of the main things that I missed after leaving my job was being able to make wonderful coffee of my own, so of course I got to work and found a few ways to try to recreate my beloved coffee drinks at home.
One of my favorites, and the only way Dave will drink coffee, is through the Toddy coffee brewing process. It is a wonderful way to make a delicious cup of iced coffee at home and it is pretty easy! We purchased our Toddy maker through amazon and it works great! I just followed the directions that came with the coffee maker and it makes perfect toddy. You will also need a liquid measuring cup, a scale, a coffee grinder, and of course your favorite kind of coffee. I love just about any kind of coffee from PT's Coffee Roasting Co. in Topeka, Kansas. Locally roasted coffee? yes, please!
I like to make my iced toddy drink with 3 oz of toddy coffee, 3 oz cold water, and 3 oz of local Hildebrand milk. Sometimes it is fun to add in a little flavor if you have some too!
I, of course, will always go back to my coffee shop and enjoy a good cup of coffee made by one of my wonderful friends/family. I encourage everyone to go and discover their locally owned coffee shops. There is nothing quite like getting your coffee made with love and a smile:) It just somehow tastes even better that way, but sometimes you have to settle for making it at home.
