When I first started lavender & clover I had no intention of having a baby product line. I was doing mostly cards, had just started my broken bouquet prints and even intended on creating tea towels next. I had a few tea towel mock-ups started that I never went through with because I wasn't loving the fabric, but discovered fabric in the sample pack that was perfect for swaddle blankets and I fell in love. I started putting together ideas from paintings I already had, at first, like the succulents and cacti fabric above. These are made from three of my favorite paintings from the succulents and cacti card set listed in my shop. I created a design "tile" that would repeat over and over on the fabric. I then picked a color that I thought looked best, and sent my fabric off to be printed. Each design is printed on Organic Cotton Knit fabric that is used to sew all of our baby items; bibs, burp rags, teether toys, and baby blankets.
^^bison quilt sneak peak ^^
I played with my Bison fabric tile a few times, and even ordered a few samples, before I made one that I liked. I tried color backgrounds, all of the bison facing the same way, different sizes and pattern layouts before finally falling in love with the one above! The bison in this print are a little larger than the other animals/plants in my fabrics and there is more white space in between them. In the end, I liked the simplicity of it. This is "Emmet's Print" He owns one of everything in this print because of mine, I mean his love for bison.
In the hopes of creating something a little more girly, and going into the project knowing I wanted to do a light pink background, I created my swan fabric next. My dream is to create an entire bird themed nursery for a little girl someday, granted we ever have one. I have a tendency to think waaay too far in advance, but in this case I think it worked out for the better, this is one of my very favorite prints! I knew I wanted both black and white swans, and decided later on to have the black swan be getting ready to fly. The fabric tile for this one includes six swans, 5 white swans and 1 black swans. The tiles then alternate on the fabric which I think it gives it a nice sense of movement and variety. Perfectly girly and sweet.
This outer space fabric went from an idea to a finished design order within a few hours. I've always really loved space, and while I'm not the most "science-y" I find planets, stars, and solar systems to be really fascinating! This design includes all 8 planets and even pluto too if you look hard enough. I grew up with pluto, my heart has a soft spot for it even if it isn't a "planet." This print is actually Emmet's favorite. I'm not sure exactly what it is, because Emmet can't talk yet, but my guess would be that he likes the contrast of the stars on the dark blue background. He giggles when he looks at it.
My most recent fabric design and the newest one to the baby line is this adorable floral that Emmet is showing off above (boys can wear pink too!). I made this one shortly after going on a huge flower painting kick, and thought it was silly not to have a floral print in my fabric line! The print is made out of 4 11x14 original watercolor paintings of peonies, white poppies, billy buttons, and eucalyptus (these originals will be available at my upcoming art show at Mojos-more details soon). The fabric tile includes the four designs on a hot pink background.
I've got more designs floating around in my head, and a few that are ready to print. Which one is your favorite? What NEW prints would you like to see?
