Last week Dave cleaned out the garage and decided he wasn't putting Emmet's toddler bed back in it. So it was decided that we would set it up and give it a try! I had been delaying it for MONTHS because I felt worried about it and never felt like it was quite the right time (because I just wanted to avoid it in general). He hadn't really tried to climb out of his crib yet BUT we knew we needed to get him sleeping in his bed and him used to the idea of Henry sleeping in the crib long before Henry actually needs to start sleeping in it full time! Which is why we had it in the first place. We bought it for super cheap from my sister in law's sister and I painted it a cute aqua blue.
Emmet made the transition pretty smoothly! He's woken up a few times in the night and wandered around his room quietly instead of napping several times. As soon as we set it up he climbed right in and told us to "go" before we even had it pushed over into the corner. And once we did he said "bye bye" to us until we tucked him in and left (30 minutes before we even planned on laying him down for a nap). It's only at nap time that he'll wander around. He usually reads books on his bed or in the chair and occasionally dumps all of his birds into his bed (if I have forgotten to move them up higher). We're slowly getting the hang of it and I actually really love being able to tuck him in and give him little kisses without reaching over the crib. My absolute favorite is when he whispers "bye bye mama" in my ear when I am giving him his goodnight kiss. Little guy knows how to make a heart melt.
By some miracle we were able to fit the new bed in without taking any furniture out! We thought for sure we would have to take out the big chair to make room for it, but nope it's still in there! It isn't the most aesthetically pleasing arrangement, but it works (which is basically just the theme of the house right now). Both closets are stuffed full of stuff as we don't have a basement or an attic, so both doors needed to still be accessible. But we can move the toys in front of the one pretty easily and duck under the artwork on the other. Plus how cute is Emmet's new art wall? I'm going to be the parent that can't throw anything away...
