Our lives have looked a little different for the past few months and I haven't really said much about it. I figured though with a new school year starting AND the shops first birthday coming up it was probably time to share! This past year I resigned from my position teaching art at Hesston Middle School. I had taught there for three years, two years at both the Elementary School and one year part time at just the middle school. I had Emmet before the school year started last year and decided it was important to try to keep teaching for at least a year before making any major decisions.
Then in August of last year, right as the school year was starting, I launched my lavender & clover online shop with cards and card sets, but never actually believed it would grow to be where it is today! I had always dreamed of having my own handmade shop, ever since I discovered the world of etsy and bloggers and stay at home mommers, but never really thought it would be possible. It worked for a while; being a mom, working part time, and running my shop, but slowly my interests started to lean far more towards raising Emmet and running my shop than they were in my classroom. So I took a leap, a well thought out and discussed with Dave but a leap none the less, and resigned from my job. It was a little bit terrifying, and still is as we figure things out, but I finally feel like I am doing what I am supposed to be doing.
Since school got out we've been figuring out this "new" life of ours. I've been doing various jobs here and there to help fill the gap and ones that I really enjoy doing and that allow me to be home with Emmet most of the time. I've been working a few hours a week doing photography and social media at Prairie Harvest in the mornings when Dave can be home with Emmet. I enjoy the creativity that it allows me and it is so fun to get to work with my friend Sara again! I have three private art students that come to my house a few times a week for private art lessons. We sit at my dining room table and work on art projects they are interested in. Most of the time though in this different way of doing things I am at home with my sweet little boy and I am so luck to be able to do so. We play and read books and snuggle before naps. While he is napping or sleeping at night I am painting new designs or custom paintings, printing cards and art prints, sewing new baby items, stuffing pom pom pillows, or designing new products.
I am so lucky to be able to stay at home and do these things, and it is really all thanks to my amazing friends, family, and customers! Our little family is so grateful for all of the support and every purchase that is made. So I designed a new thank you note with a new watercolor family portrait. Each order made from our online shop will be bundled with one with a handwritten note on the back, because we really do want to say thank you!
