I have been looking for fun ways to spruce up our living room that are #1 not plants (because I already have too many... according to Dave) and #2 that fit Dave and I's "style." I'm never quite sure how to describe our home's style.. perhaps black & white modern scandinavian? I think that could work. I am finding it moderately tricky though to find decorative pieces that match that style.
I did however, stumble upon a candelabra the other day that I thought could be really fun and easy to make! All it takes is a quick trip to the hardware store for some copper pipe pieces and a little bit of glue.
-one 1/2 inch three-opening copper slip tee fitting
-three 3/4 inch 90 degree copper slip elbow fittings
-two 3/4 inch 45 degree copper slip elbow fittings
-three candle sticks
-heavy duty glue (for metal)
To make my candelabra I first spread my glue with q-tips onto the smaller ends of two of the 90 degree copper slip elbow fittings and attached them to the wider openings of the 45 degree copper slip elbow fittings. I then took the smaller openings of the 45 degree copper slip elbow fittings and glued them into the two ends straight across from each other of the three-opening copper slip tee fitting. I then glued the last 90 degree copper slip elbow fitting into the third opening of the three-opening copper slip tee fitting. As I was doing this I made sure that all of the 90 degree copper slip elbow fittings faced straight up, as these become where you will stick in your candles (once the glue dries!!!)!
I just absolutely love how my candelabra turned out! It is always so pleasing when projects turn out exactly how you imagined them and you know that you will actually want to keep them. I used to struggle with making things that I thought were cute but then only keeping for a month or so because they didn't actually match my style at all! This copper candelabra however? Absolutely perfect and it fits right in at our home. The best part about it is that because you can fit the copper pieces together in many different ways there are endless possibilities of candelabras that you can make! I can't wait to try out another arrangement to put in another room at our house.
