I am still in a little bit of denial that my baby is now technically a toddler, which makes celebrating him getting older a little bit bittersweet. But we still had so much fun planning, prepping, and celebrating his first birthday this past weekend!
I had been getting ready & dreaming of this party for a while now. I love planning parties and thought of it as a welcomed distraction from my everyday activities these past few months. I ordered tons of plastic animals and big gold balloons and started DIYing as many things as possible. From his invites (made from Lavender & Clover cards) to the party hats on top of the animals heads, pretty much everything was DIY and I will be sharing those in the upcoming weeks!
I think the best part about the party was sharing such a big day with a lot of the people that we love. My brother and sister traveled from out of state to come see us and so many of our friends went out of there way to come celebrate with us too. We had the party over at Dave's brothers business building where there was enough space for all of us to spread out and mingle without feeling squished. Our current house is far too small to host large gatherings, and it ended up being the perfect space too. We mostly just stood around and talked, but Emmet did eat his cake for everyone and open his gifts. I really thought he would smash his cake and rub it all over himself, but he was so gentle and sheepish about it but still REALLY adorable. At the beginning of the party we were so worried that Emmet would be too grouchy to celebrate. When we got to the building I set him down and he immediately cried. We thought maybe it was the balloons, but I think it was just him being overwhelmed about being in a new space. He ended up doing great though! He made it through the whole party and then stayed up with us until his normal bedtime. My little party animal.
