In the end I used almost nothing that I had packed and prepared so long in advance... so I thought I would share our hospital bag- the edited version.. the things that we actually used.
-Some posts I read mentioned bringing a change of clothes for the extra days in the hospital....underwear, robe, etc. I had all of these packed but the truth is I never used them! I was perfectly happy wearing the robes that they provided. I would recommend bringing a pair of socks though! Dave had to keep putting them on my feet and taking them off by request as I had hot and cold flashes while in labor. He is such a good guy!
-Nursing Bras/Pads- I found these nursing sleep bras at Target that are super comfortable. They came in a pack of two so I was able to wear one for the months leading up to it and pack the other! I also found these nursing pads at target, I liked that they were reusable so I could feel a little less wasteful (I know I will feel super wasteful here soon using disposable diapers... I'm just not brave enough)
-Nipple Cream (I ended up needing prescription cream!)
-Slippers- While I loved the idea of bringing my favorite slippers from home(similar), I saved some space by packing/wearing shoes that would be comfortable enough to wear around the hospital AND that would work to wear to and from the hospital, so I packed these moccasins from Minnetonka. Other than getting two the hospital and leaving though I really only wore them the one time I ran out of my room to find our nurse for a picture. I didn't leave the room other than that and actually got lost trying to find my way back in again!
-Clothes to Wear Home-I just brought a comfy nursing tank top and some yoga pants as well as a pair of Plain Black Cotton Undies and a normal sized pads (the ones they give you in the hospital are crazy huge!)
-Make-Up/Toiletries- Chapstick, Dry Shampoo, Hair Accessories, Shampoo/Conditioner, Face wash, Soap, Make-up bag, Glasses/Extra Contacts, Make-up Remover Wipes
-Going Home Outfit-We are bringing two; one in newborn and one in 0-3 month just in case. Our newborn outfit was thrifted and our 0-3 month is from Briley Studios and Baby Sprouts Co
-Swaddles-We just put this over him on the way home... otherwise we used the hospitals swaddles!
-Hat, Mittens, Socks-We brought a hat that I bought from Thred Up but it was originally from Gap. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE these adorable little hats from on Lola and Stella Etsy and these baby mittens from 8 AM Apparel on Etsy. Emmet's fingernails were so long when he was born so he actually wore his mittens right away!
-Car Seat- We got the Nuna Pipa Car seat from Nordstrom.
-Lovie/Photo Props- While bringing photography props to the hospital and taking up valuable space in the hospital bag may seem to be/actually be ridiculous, I love the idea of having cute pictures from our time at the hospital. I love this post (the hello my name is sticker... I melt) of hospital photos, this post with 5 tips for taking newborn photos, and this post (the photos they took are adorable). Isn't his owl from Hazel Village the cutest ever? I plan to get one of their adorable creatures for each of Dave and I's kids.
-Several posts also mentioned that you could bring something to do, so I had my Darling Magazine packed just in case. ! I never reached for the extra items that I packed to read/do though because I was either having crazy back to back contractions or holding my sweet boy and entertaining guests.
